Description of Jewelry by Alice Hunt100_1913.jpg

Alice Hunt of Delton Michigan creates a collection of unique and beautiful one of a kind and limited series pins, earrings and necklaces in porcelain and stoneware. Her pieces are hand formed and she uses a combination of under glazes and over glazes with a final application of 14K gold details.  Most pieces are fired three or four times in the kiln.

Many of her pieces are miniature sculptures of flowers or leaves touched with a golden dewdrop, or impressions of flowers, shells, leaves and other subjects from nature shimmering with iridescence, gold highlights and layers of color.   Other pieces have a warm comforting retro look reminiscent of decades gone by, like a treasure from grandma’s jewel box.  A whimsical humor is reflected in Prince Charming frogs, fanciful fish, bunnies hiding in the flowers or the expression on the face of a cat  or a snowman.  They are elegant little sculptures with a sense of humor that are fun to wear.

Artists Statement for Jewelry by Alice Hunt

“My goal is to create things that make people smile, to enable them to see the beauty all around  to uplift the spirit with beauty or cheerful humor.

The artistry of nature is constantly unfolding with the progression of the seasons always fresh and new yet timeless in its repetition of ancient themes.  Creating wearable sculptures in porcelain using many themes of nature and the changing seasons gives me great joy.

Finding beauty all around leads me to the hope of something true and lasting beneath the often disturbing waves and currents of our contemporary world.  Even on a rainy day rainbows can be found.  On the bitterest of cold winter mornings the ground is covered with diamonds if the sun is shining.  I hope my work brings some sunshine into your day.”
